Ellie died at Los Alamitos yesterday – no details yet. She was two years old and being prepped for her first race.
Sunday, Alberto Cantino, says the Gaming Commission, was euthanized at Saratoga “due to a RH fracture during shipping.” He, too, was two and being prepped for his first race.
Staying in NY – and at Saratoga – the Commission has only just added a death that occurred back on Aug 11. Jess Ez Girl, they say, “was euthanized due to cellulitis, enterocolitis [inflammation of both intestines], renal [kidney] failure, and laminitis.” Oh, how this poor girl – also just two and being prepped for her first race – suffered. For those keeping track, this makes it 20 dead horses at Saratoga this summer.
And finally, a few notes from the stewards at Kentucky Downs:
Aug 28: “Steal Sunshine was injured in the paddock and scratched.”
Aug 30: “Texas Queen was injured in the paddock and scratched.”
Sep 4: “Tarneema finished 9th and suffered a post-race heatstroke.”
Horseracing is animal cruelty. Horseracing is animal killing. Horseracing must end.
