Brendan Rodgers’ relationship with the Celtic board has been subject to much debate.

Rodgers has maintained that he enjoys a positive relationship with the hierarchy at Celtic Park despite his public demands not being met on several occasions.

This leaves everything the Celtic boss says open to interpretation – though he will not speak about the hugely controversial recent transfer window until later this week.

A Celtic statement has angered supporters further, with many seeing the manager as being disrespected with the club’s business.

And for one pundit, a club source’s recent leaks about Rodgers ‘engineering his exit’ are putting that relationship at risk.

Hugh Keevins says Celtic have insulted the intelligence of supporters

Speaking on Clyde Superscoreboard, Hugh Keevins was hugely critical of the board’s communications.

Celtic fans have not responded well to the statement which was released on Saturday night, and for Keevins, this is justified.

He said: “Celtic, by their actions at the weekend, have shown that there are serious areas of concern.

“They have smeared the manager, they have put out a nonsensical statement, they have gone on about UEFA sustainability rules, and that is misleading. They were in no danger of breaching those rules.

“The statement is an insult to the intelligence of supporters, who are now mobilising. The backlash that Celtic will feel will be lengthy and costly.”

It remains to be seen just how costly the backlash will be, as fans threaten to withhold their money from the club by passing on Europa League packages and merchandise.

Celtic’s next fixture against Kilmarnock will not be straightforward – it has been a historically challenging ground for Rodgers.

Sebastian Tounekti and Kelechi Iheanacho have both been brought to Celtic Park since the last fixture against Rangers, and could make their debuts in Ayrshire.

For the sake of the team’s fortunes, they have to hit the ground running. Celtic scored in just one of their last eight halves of football.

It isn’t an ideal situation for Rodgers – but if he is to stay in the job, the last thing he will want to do is let his 100% title-winning record slip.
