Wahoo has introduced a new Kickr Bike Pro, which it bills as “the pinnacle of indoor riding technology” and includes a saddle and handlebar tape from Fizik, along with a new Kickr Core 2 trainer that comes with WiFi connectivity and the option of either a Zwift Cog and Click or an 11-speed cassette.

We’ll tell you about the Kickr Bike Pro first…

Wahoo Kickr Bike Pro indoor bike

Wahoo has offered indoor-specific bikes for the past few years and now the Kickr Bike Pro comes in to replace the existing second version of the Kickr Bike, with new touchpoints from Fizik that are intended to improve the feel, and new shifter controls.

The Kickr Bike Pro offers Wahoo’s “flagship indoor cycling experience”. It’ll cost you £3,499.99, though, so it’s one for multi-user households or those who take their indoor riding very seriously. Or you might just be loaded.

“Kickr Bike Pro builds upon the already great ride experience of Kickr Bike One and Two while offering improvements to key components,” says Wahoo’s category director for cycling Tyler Harris.

“Carrying over are the realistic built-in incline control, best-in-class virtual shifting, Kickr Race Mode, the five-point adjustment system and the power, accuracy and connectivity that you expect. What’s new are the touch points, redesign shifters, the Kickr Bridge feature (see below), and improvements to the quick-release levers and shift cables.

“With Kickr Bike Pro, we set out to improve all the touch points, so we partnered with Fizik to significantly upgrade the saddle and bar tape to the 150mm-wide Aliante saddle and the 2.7mm Solocush bar tape. We’ve paired those with a more ergonomic 40cm handlebar with a 16° flare, offering a wider range of more comfortable hand positions.”

“Inspired by modern virtual cycling trends, the new interface offers a natural, responsive feel and easy access to in-app features on Zwift, without ever leaving the bars,” says Wahoo. “This update enhances rider immersion and places Kickr Bike Pro as the most integrated indoor training solution available.

“Kickr Bike Pro offers next-level realism with integrated incline simulation, a precision flywheel with motor and downhill simulation, and Kickr Race Mode for near instantaneous power response.

“The easily adjustable five-point fit system ensures perfect ergonomics, while virtual shifting offers seamless, customisable gear changes to replicate real-world riding.”

Wahoo claims the Kickr Bike Pro can simulate gradients of -15° to +20°, and has a maximum power output of 2,500 watts. It is said to be accurate to within +/-1%.

As mentioned, the Wahoo Kickr Bike Pro is priced at £3,499.99.

Wahoo Kickr Core 2 trainer

Wahoo has also updated its Kickr Core smart trainer for the first time in seven years, the Kickr Core 2 coming with WiFi connectivity, a sensor bridge, and the choice of either a Zwift Cog and Click setup (a single sprocket designed to fit most 8-12 speed bikes) or an 11-speed cassette. Why 11-speed? Wahoo says this is still the most commonly used gear setup it sees used on indoor trainers, especially at this price point. Kickr Core 2 will also be available with Zwift Ride.

“Kickr Core 2 builds upon all the greatness of Core 1, carrying over and improving features like 1,800 watts max resistance, 2% power accuracy, automatic calibration, Kickr Core flywheel ride feel and virtual shifting with the Zwift Click,” says Wahoo’s Tyler Harris.

“New features include WiFi connectivity, automatic firmware updates, Race Mode from the Kickr V6, and an all-new base and assembly process, Kickr Bridge – this is the Kickr Core sensor hub to centralise all your device connections – and then updated multi-colour LEDs for easier Kickr diagnostics and status updates.

“The Kickr Bridge relays heart rate and Zwift Click controller data through the Kickr Core for one connection point to any apps.

“Kickr Bridge is compatible with ANT and Bluetooth heart rate monitors and relays the data over the Kickr’s Bluetooth or WiFi connection.

“The Zwift Click version two and Zwift Ride controllers are also relayed over the Kickr’s WiFi connection. These will be coming in a firmware update out of the box.

“Alongside the new Kickr Core 2 comes the option for the Zwift Ready bundle, including the new Zwift Click controllers. The new Zwift Clicks bring all the functionality of the Zwift Play controllers to a smaller and more flexible package. With the new Click controllers, there’s no need to ever leave the handlebars to fully navigate and interact with the Zwift game.”

As Tyler Harris mentioned, you also now get the Kickr Race Mode that’s found on other Wahoo models, meaning the trainer’s broadcast rate increases from 1Hz (one cycle per second) to up to 10Hz. This allows for faster power updates (up to 10 times per second) when you’re riding in virtual worlds – so your avatar will respond almost instantly when you step things up.

Wahoo also reckons that it’s super-easy to get the Kickr Core 2 set up thanks to flatter, more stable legs with built-in installation guidance and multi-colour LEDs that provide clear status for connectivity, ride readiness, and diagnostics.

Wahoo claims the Kickr Core 2 can simulate gradients from -10° to 20°, has a maximum power output of 1,800 watts, and is accurate to within +/-2%.

The Wahoo Kickr Core 2 is priced at £499.99, and it’s the same price whether you go for the 11-speed cassette option or the Zwift bundle. It’s among the most affordable trainers with WiFi we’ve seen, although not quite as affordable as the WiFi-enabled JetBlack Victory that we recently awarded a 10/10 in its review.

Wahoo will have to offer something extraordinary to top that, and you can find out whether the US tech brand can soon, as we have one in for review right now.
