Baroness drummer Allen Blickle has tragically died at the age of 42. His bandmates confirmed the news on Monday in a statement on social media where they revealed he had passed away a ‘few days ago’, however they didn’t discuss the cause of death.
The band released a heartbreaking statement which read: “It breaks my heart to have to share the news that my dear friend, creative partner and former bandmate Allen Blickle passed away a few days ago.
“I’m still in shock that he’s gone. We ask for understanding as his family and this band process his passing and grieve his loss. Allen, I love you and miss you. I treasure every moment we shared.”
Kylesa star Laura Pleasants responded to the news with a heartfelt message on the band’s profile. She wrote: “I was so heartbroken… finding out how the past month was. I am just gutted, dude. We all thought you had this thing beat. F***, we were supposed to hang out when i got back from tour… Gone too soon my friend. I’m glad you are at peace and no longer in pain.”

Allen formed his band Baroness in 2003 alongside singer John, bassist Summer Welch, and guitarist Tim Loose. That same year Tim decided to part ways with the rest of the band and was replaced by Allen’s brother, Brian. Brian was later replaced by Pete Adams in 2008.

In 2012 the band was involved in a terrible accident when their tour bus, which was carrying nine people, fell over 30ft from a viaduct. The crash resulted in Allen and then-bassist Matt Maggioni fracturing their vertebrae and decided they were going to part ways with the band the following year.

After the news of Allen’s passing, fans were left devastated and heartbroken as they left their condolences. One person penned: “One of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Rest in Peace. No one will play disco beats over metal like you did. Tragedy”, while another added: “His drumming in the first Baroness recordings is one of my favorite elements of the band, he had an energy dificult to explain, was unique, I also loved his Alpaca project, rest in peace”.
A third wrote: “Unreal. Rest in peace to another legend gone too soon”.
