WAKEFIELD TRINITY head coach Daryl Powell has slammed the Captain’s Challenge as “an absolute disaster” and has called for change.
Wakefield’s 26-22 loss to Castleford Tigers on Friday night saw a number of frustrating stoppages, including three Captain’s Challenge decisions and four video refereeing referrals.
Powell refused to blame the stop-start nature of the fixture as the reason for his side’s surprise defeat, but he does want to see rugby league fix the problem.
“The game is an absolute mess and Cas deserved to win that game 100 percent. The referee had no deciding factor in it but the game is a mess,” Powell said.
“The Captain’s Challenge is an absolute disaster. I watched two games over the weekend and the game is a mess. It needs sorting out.
“That is a side issue. I thought we were a mess as well so maybe it is fitting.”
