The Trump International Golf Club in Doonbeg will host next year’s Amgen Irish Open.

The DP World Tour schedule for the 2026-2027 was announced today, confirming the Co Clare links – owned by US President Donald Trump – will stage the tournament for the first time, from 10-13 September 2026.

The selection of the venue is certain to bring a significant political aspect to the tournament next year, in particularly for relations between Ireland and the US.

Rory McIlroy won most recent edition last weekend at the K Club in a thrilling play-off.

McIlroy has helped the Irish Open grow on the DP World Tour, with his participation, former sponsorship through The Rory Foundation and two victories adding to its reputation.

It is just the second time County Clare has been awarded the tournament, with Lahinch Golf Course the venue in 2019.

The Trump Organisation has reportedly invested more than €40m, including the purchase price, into the resort since it came under their its ownership in February 2014.

It has received several awards as a destination venue for the sport, without previously attracting a significant professional event.

President Trump stayed in Doonbeg in 2019 during his first term and returned in 2023.

The Nexo Championship at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen was added to the 2025 DP World Tour schedule this season, while a PGA Tour event has also been lined up at a Trump-owned venue next season in Florida.

The PGA Tour has claimed the “leadership” of the US President has helped talks between them and the LIV Tour over a long-time planned mergership.

Eric Trump, executive vice president of The Trump Organisation and son of the US leader, said they are honoured to host the tournament: “We are incredibly proud that Trump Ireland has been chosen to host the 2026 Amgen Irish Open.

“This tournament is one of the most celebrated events in golf, and bringing it to Trump Ireland is a true testament to the standard of excellence that’s upheld at this property.

“The course is absolutely remarkable, and we are honoured to welcome the DP World Tour, its players, and fans from across the globe to experience the beauty and challenge of our championship links.”
