National Television Awards viewers were left asking ‘what’s going on’ as an American star was spotted in the audience.
The night got off to a busy start, with comedian Joel Dommett bringing all the action from London’s O2 on Wednesday night (September 10).
Following a performance from McFly, the first award of the night saw the Bruce Forsyth entertainment award go to Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.
Collecting his award, Michael said: “I’ve sat in the front row many, many times with my feet on the bottom stair and never won this prize. This is an excellent turn of events.
Following this, Sir Trevor McDonald and Dermot O’Leary revealed that Call The Midwife has been named best returning drama, beating the likes of Vera and Netflix’s Heartstopper.
Moments later, Jeremy Clarkson said he was ‘genuinely thrilled’ as Clarkson’s Farm won best factual entertainment show.
Presenting the award for reality competition was Rob Rinder and Liz Hurley, who currently front The Inheritance on Channel 4.

The Inheritance sees 13 strangers summoned to a stately home to compete for part of the fortune left in the will of Liz’s character, ‘the Deceased’.
Sadly for those taking part, the Deceased won’t make things easy for them and is determined to make sure only the best players can get their hands on her inheritance.
Much has been made about the broadcaster securing Liz for the series, with the actress appearing in hit films such as Austin Powers.
Away from the limelight, Liz gave birth to her and American businessman Steve Bing’s son Damian Charles Hurley in 2002
Liz has also been married to Indian businessman Arun Nayar and was engaged to the late Australian cricketer Shane Warne
The 60-year-old is currently in a relationship with American musician Billy Ray Cyrus, who is the father of Miley Cyrus and acted alongside her in Hannah Montana.
Despite Billy being known primarily in the United States, the Old Town Road singer was spotted in the audience watching the night’s talking points unfold as they happened.
Those watching at home rushed to X, previously known as Twitter, after noticing Billy Ray sitting with the likes of Gary Lineker and Jack P Shepherd at the NTAs.
