George Smith became the youngest-ever player to achieve this feat in the club’s 126-year history.

The youngster, who has been a junior member of the club for four years, hit his ‘ace’ when playing in the weekly ‘Wednesday Club Night’ stableford competition, going on to win the whole thing with 43 points.

Smith found his record-breaking moment on the 13th tee, where he struck a perfect 7-iron, to watch the ball drop into the hole on the green surrounded by bunkers and the Laugherne Brook.

Smith, who is coached by Alex Band – the club’s assistant professional – had been a pupil Pitmaston Primary School, before beginning his years in senior education at Christopher Whitehead School on Wednesday, September 3.

Smith is not the only golf prodigy smashing records at the club, following in the footsteps of Harry Evans who broke the course record with a score of 61 at the club championships earlier this year.

His new record – nine under on the par 70 course – broke a course record that had stood since 1994.

The record has been equalled three times since it was set, but never beaten prior to Evans’ achievement.
