A rumoured re-release of Pink Floyd‘s Wish You Were Here could be set for December 12, if a tracklist release is to be believed.
Apple Music has updated the Pink Floyd discography to include a Wish You Were Here 50 album featuring three discs of material. Along with presumably remastered versions of Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1 – 5), Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar, Wish You Were Here, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 6 – 9) are alternate versions, demos, and a live performance from the Los Angeles Sports Arena, 1975. An announcement confirming the release of a Wish You Were Here anniversary collection is expected tomorrow (September 12), though it appears fans scouring the internet for details have stumbled onto the tracklist. Whether this is the real tracklist will be confirmed in the next few days, though it does appear to be an official release.
Speculation over a Wish You Were Here anniversary release comes after fans noticed all of Pink Floyd’s album covers had been replaced on streaming services. The nod to Wish You Were Here’s original “black bag” release sent fans wild as they speculated over the reason for the change.
The “black bag” profile picture now used by Pink Floyd on their social media channels has tipped fans off about what the next release could be following the group’s decision to sell off their back catalogue. The reported $400million figure means Sony Music has free rein to release what they want, when they want. Pink Floyd at Pompeii has so far been the first release from the back catalogue, with delighted fans hoping fresh material or archival tapes would follow. It doesn’t seem listeners had long to wait, as a “black bag” change to Pink Floyd’s social media accounts has tipped off what the next release could be.
Wish You Were Here was originally released in a black shrink wrap, with the logo of two robotic hands shaking on the front. This image was used on re-releases of the album, and appears to be a part of the rollout of a new remastering or anniversary package. The album, which released on September 12, 1975, was recorded between January and July 1975. Fans believe a Dolby Atmos Mix of the album is on the way.
Now a “pre-release” tracklist has been spotted on Apple Music, with a slated release of December 12. This would be exactly fifty years and three months after the original release of Wish You Were Here. A full alleged tracklist can be found below.
