Nicole Kidman has offered an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel Practical Magic 2 ahead of its cinema release next year.

The film, which sees Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprising their respective roles as sisters Gillian and Sally Owens from 1998’s Practical Magic, has wrapped filming this week.

The actor shared a brief behind-the-scenes video on her Instagram account, featuring the two leading stars in a field walking away from the camera while holding hands and hugging.

“That’s a wrap on #PracticalMagic2! Thank you to the cast & crew for all your magic,” Kidman wrote in the caption of the video.

Along with Kidman and Bullock, there are some other returning stars from the original movie, including Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny respectively.

Evan Rachel Wood will not be returning to play Sally’s eldest daughter Kylie, as the actor announce on Instagram last July.

“l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters,” she explained.

Joey King was cast in the sequel and she is believed to be playing one of Sally’s grown-up daughters, but it’s unclear if she will be Kylie – therefore replacing Wood – or the youngest daughter Antonia.

The first Practical Magic follows the Owen sisters as they deal with a terrible curse which dooms any man who falls in love with them.

When Gillian’s vicious boyfriend Jimmy Angelov dies unexpectedly, the sisters resort to magic to resurrect him and escape justice, but they end up unwittingly injecting his corpse with an evil spirit that threatens to end their family line.

Plot details for the sequel are still under wraps.

Practical Magic 2 is releasing in cinemas on 18 September 2026.
