People have started leaving flowers and cards outside the home of Ricky Hatton in Hyde, following the news of his death.
At around midday today, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a body had been found at the residence of the Stockport-born fighter.
GMP have said that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Our reporter Greta Simpson, who has been at the scene since the news broke this morning, has spoken to devastated fans of the world champion boxer as they arrived to pay tribute to the 46-year-old.
One man, who said he was a close friend of Ricky’s had driven down, from Scotland after getting the heartbreaking call at around 8am this morning.
“I’ve just cried for four or five hours, the whole drive down,” he said. “I can’t believe it.”
Stephen Billing, 46, from Longsight left a Man City scarf outside Hatton’s home.
He told Greta: “I’d see him at City and after that he would get people to his gym.
“He was hard as nails I know that in the ring and out of the ring but in a good way. Just a great guy local down to earth you wouldn’t think he was a boxer with millions. Everyone has their ups and downs. It’s sad. He was a great geezer.”
Mr Billing added: “He’s a Manchester lad proper City fan I can’t believe it’s derby day today and it’s happened. Proper f***ing geezer.”
