Sir David is expected to return as grocer Granville in an Open All Hours TV special, 50 years on from when he first played the role.

A 90-minute feature-length special will mark the show’s 50th anniversary and will air on U&Gold in 2026, and will be titled ‘Open All Hours: Inside Out’.

According to the Radio Times, the special will show Granville back at Arkwright’s shop in a short scene created by original writer Roy Clarke.

The special will also show some exclusive behind-the-scenes moments, including Sir David talking about memories of the show.

Discussing the 50th anniversary of Open All Hours, Sir David said: “It’s so good to be back! I played Granville for over half my life and so this show holds a very special place in my heart”.

Adding: “There are countless memories and stories about this show, and I am thrilled to be able to share those with everyone”.

Open All Hours first aired in 1973 for a one-off test pilot; it later returned for a full series run from 1976 to 1985.

Sir David starred as the nephew and shop assistant to Ronnie Barker’s Arkwright, following Barker’s death in 2005, Granville took over the shop.
