Just as planned, Apple unveiled its much-anticipated iPhone 17 series, and it was an eventful event. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max debuted a fresh new aluminum unibody design – a major departure from the flat look the iPhone had since the iPhone 12 back in 2020.
The design features a new camera plateau that spans the top of the aluminum case. It features three 48MP Fusion cameras, including an upgraded new 4x telephoto. The 100mm zoom is a departure from the 120mm on the older series.
In a somewhat unprecedented move, Apple gave its base model iPhone 17 a ProMotion screen – that’s LTPO 120Hz for you droids out there. The glass up top is also the same Ceramic Shield 2 that’s on the Pro models, meaning the base iPhone has essentially the same screen as the 17 Pro.
All four new iPhone 17 models are now on sale and will ship next Friday.
Apple’s iPhone didn’t get more expensive, technically.
This truly is the biggest update to the iPhone in some time.
It’s powered by the A19 chip.
The much-hyped iPhone 17 Air turned out to be just the iPhone Air. It replaces the base Plus iPhone in the lineup, but really has nothing to do with that model. The Air is a premium phone with a 6.5-inch ProMotion display, a titanium case that’s only 5.6mm thin, and an A19 Pro SoC (with one less graphics core than the Pros).
It debuts the Apple N1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip as well as the Apple C1X modem.
Unfortunately, the PWM rate itself hasn’t improved, but this is a decent solution for those who are sensitive to PWM.
The iPhone 17 lineup is set to launch on September 9.
The lineup is rumored to include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
In non-Apple-related news, the Xperia 10 VII is official. The phone finally brings a high-refresh-rate screen – a 120Hz OLED compared to the 60Hz unit on the Xperia 10 VI. It also gets a chip upgrade and better cameras. The Sony Xperia 10 VII is available in White, Turquoise, and Charcoal black colors and is priced at €449 ($525). Pre-orders are now open with shipping set for September 19.
The Xperia 10 VII is equipped with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC.
The vivo X300 Pro will come with a flat display.
Only a few more days left to wait.
