Season five of Only Murders in the Building premiered on September 9, 2025.Star cast member Selena Gomez is currently planning her wedding with fiancé Benny Blanco.Other cast members in long-term relationships include Steve Martin, Tina Fey, and Michael Cyril Creighton.

Only Murders in the Building modernized the true crime genre when it touched down on Hulu back in 2021. Set in the historic (albeit fictional) Arconia apartment building, the series follows a trio of amateur podcast producers as they attempt to solve (and narrate) one murder per season. Off camera, meanwhile, stars Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin are all about love, especially when it comes to Gomez’s upcoming wedding to producer Benny Blanco

“I just adore her,” Short told Amy Poehler on a recent episode of her podcast, “Good Hang.” “I’m so happy that she’s getting married to this fabulous guy, Benny Blanco, who’s just one of the great, cool guys and funny and loose, and she adores him.”

Of course, Gomez is far from the only OMITB cast member to have found love. From decades-long partnerships to rumored co-star flirtations, there’s no shortage of romance to be had on and off set. Ahead, keep scrolling to find out the relationship status of your favorite sleuths from Only Murders in the Building.

Gomez and Blanco’s friends-to-lovers pipeline began with a musical collaboration in 2015. The pair reunited again for the 2019 track “I Can’t Get Enough,” and again four years later for “Single Soon,” before (finally) confirming their relationship in December 2023.

“He is my absolute everything in my heart,” Gomez wrote in a comment to a fan at the time, adding, “then why has he been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. The end.”

The couple’s romance quickly escalated from there. In January 2024, Gomez and Blanco made their public debut at an NBA game before making out later that same month at the Golden Globes. The “Calm Down” singer then declared her love for Blanco on Valentine’s Day and penned a sweet tribute to her man in March for his birthday. By the end of the year, the couple were officially engaged. Gomez shared images from Blanco’s proposal on Instagram with the caption “Forever begins now..”

Gomez and Blanco are currently planning their wedding, with one special role set aside for her OMITB co-star Martin Short. “Marty is due to give a speech. I told him he must,” the bride-to-be told Drew Barrymore. “I feel like Marty would have an epic speech,” Gomez continued, adding that their fellow co-star Steve Martin would “probably pull out his banjo.”

Speaking of Steve Martin, the veteran comedian has been married to his wife Anne Stringfield since 2007. The longtime couple met when she was working at The New Yorker as a fact checker and got assigned to one of Martin’s pieces. (He writes for the Shouts & Murmurs section.) They wed in a secret ceremony at their home in L.A. and later welcomed their daughter Mary in 2012.

“She makes it all possible,” the Cheaper by the Dozen actor once said of his wife in an interview with People. “She has one of the most important qualities a person can have—and that’s kindness.”

Stringfield typically avoids the spotlight and does not accompany Martin on the red carpet. She did, however, make a brief appearance in his 2024 documentary STEVE! (martin) A Documentary in 2 Pieces. “I don’t really have a tabloid life,” Martin said during an interview with The Oklahoman in 1990. “I really don’t like to talk about it [his personal life]. I think most people are this way.”

Martin Short

Despite a rumored romance with his OMITB co-star Meryl Streep, Martin Short is currently single. Reps for the actor confirmed as much in 2024, telling People that the pair “are just very good friends, nothing more.”

Prior to joining the cast of OMITB, Short was married to actress Nancy Dolman for 30 years. She passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer in 2010. The couple met on the set of the musical Godspell and tied the knot back in 1980.

Following her death, the Cross My Heart actor threw his late wife a party with the help of the couple’s three children. “(Nancy) had once said to me, ‘I don’t want a funeral and I don’t want a memorial. Throw a party, or not,'” the actor later said during an appearance on The Meredith Vieira Show. “She just was so irritated that she was losing this battle, she didn’t want to think about it.”

Short continued, “So I just followed her wishes. We went up, we had a party with about 30 close friends and family. She was cremated. The kids and I went into a boat, we sprinkled the ashes into the water, and we jumped into the ashes.”

Meryl Streep tied the knot with artist Don Gummer in 1978. After 45 years of marriage, the duo announced their separation in 2023.

“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years,” a rep for the Manhattan actress said in a statement shared with People. “While they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”

The ex-couple share four adult children: Henry Wolfe Gummer, Mary Willa “Mamie” Gummer, Grace Gummer, and Louisa Jacobson, the latter of whom currently stars in The Gilded Age.

Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond

Tina Fey met her husband Jeff Richmond at Chicago’s famed Second City improv theater back in the 1990s. They began dating and later married in a Greek Orthodox ceremony in 2001.

“We met when I was 24. He’s nine years older than I am,” Fey told Women’s Health in January 2007. “There was no game playing or ‘I’ll call you tomorrow.’ It was a very easy, respectful relationship from the beginning, and it very quickly and easily became quite solid.”

The couple eventually moved to New York City and welcomed two daughters, Alice and Penelope, in 2005 and 2011, respectively. They’ve also collaborated on several projects: Richmond has composed the music for 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and the Mean Girls musical.

“On 30 Rock, we would be not necessarily occupying the same creative spaces all the time,” the father-of-two later explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “She would be writing the script, and then I would be off in another room writing the songs…It was very enjoyable!”

Jane Lynch and Jennifer Cheyne

Jane Lynch and Jennifer Cheyne’s love story began in the early 2000s, but they parted ways for nearly a decade before reconnecting and tying the knot in 2021. “[We] fell back together so easily and lovingly,” Lynch told Parade in 2019. “We’re very different people now—we don’t have the same insecurities we used to have.”

The Glee alum, whose OMITB character dies at the end of season four, also once told People that her wife makes her “thankful all day long.” “She figures out how to deal with [everything],” Lynch said. “That’s the greatest thing about her, because I get overwhelmed, and I have no patience with details. She’s very methodical and she takes things very slowly.”

Michael Cyril Creighton’s most important relationship in OMITB is arguably with his cat, but in real life, the actor has been in a relationship with his husband Brian Mullan for more than two decades. The pair began dating on May 14, 2004 and tied the knot on the exact same day 12 years later.

“I am so glad I sent that Friendster message and then stalked him and convinced him to go on a date,” Creighton wrote in a sweet Instagram tribute on their 19th anniversary. “… Thank goodness for you. Truly.”
