The penultimate round of Super League has seen strong attendance figures across the board, barring one game.

Four of the six matches in Round 26 drew crowds of over 10,000 whilst a fifth broke the 9,000 barrier for a seasonal high.

Of the four games that broke the 10,000 barrier, two hit 15,000 with the first of those on Thursday night when Catalans Dragons shocked Leeds Rhinos with a 16-18 win.

That opened the door for Leigh Leopards who duly obliged on Friday night, beating St Helens in front of 10,011 as they moved into third and guaranteed a home play-off match.

Friday night’s other game saw Wigan Warriors hammer Castleford Tigers in front of 15,224 with Matt Peet’s side hitting form when it matters.

They’ve even got a chance of winning the League Leaders Shield given Hull KR’s defeat to Wakefield, losing 28-12 in their worst performance of the year. That game saw Trinity draw their highest attendance of the Super League season, with 9,258 watching.

Whilst Hull KR lost, Hull FC won with the Black and Whites beating Warrington Wolves 34-2 at home in front of almost 10,500. Ironically, Hull FC actually needed a favour from Hull KR with John Cartwright’s side still one point behind Wakefield Trinity in the race for the sixth and final play-off spot.

Round 26 of Super League concluded on Sunday afternoon when Huddersfield Giants defeated Salford Red Devils 22-8 as they scored three tries in the final ten minutes to land the win. Leroy Cudjoe, playing his final home game for Huddersfield, kicked the final conversion with the 37-year-old also given a guard of honour before the game.

That game drew the smallest crowd with just 4,082 in attendance.
