Following the release of the iPhone 17 lineup, Apple confirmed the simultaneous release of the final versions of iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, scheduled for Monday, September 15, 2025. The new systems will launch on all supported devices simultaneously, promising significant changes in how iPhone and iPad are used.

A preliminary hands-on with the iOS 26 innovations has allowed us to see how the Apple ecosystem is evolving. One of the main concepts is the idea of Liquid Glass – an attempt to make the design across all products more cohesive, with smooth transitions between elements and a unified stylistic approach.

Who will be able to upgrade to iOS 26

Before updating your device, it’s important to check compatibility: if a model is outdated, the update may be unavailable. In 2025, some older iPhone models will stop receiving updates.

Compatible iPhone models with iOS 26 include the iPhone SE second generation and later, as well as the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max lines. Support also extends to the iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 series – including Pro and Pro Max models, as well as the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro Max.

Regarding iPadOS 26, compatible models are: iPad Pro with the M4 processor, iPad Pro 12.9″ (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11″ (1st generation and later), iPad Air (from the 3rd generation, including models with M2 and M3), iPad (8th generation and later, including the A14), as well as iPad mini (5th generation and later).

If you do not plan to upgrade to a newer iPhone model, you should note that security updates and compatibility for certain apps may be discontinued over time, increasing cyber threats or compatibility problems. Some apps may also require a particular iOS version or newer, and thus many new features simply won’t appear on your device.

When exactly will iOS 26 be available? Apple said the release is scheduled for Monday, September 15, 2025, with a public beta version also expected for user familiarization.
