Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce that Joe Lyons has signed a new two-year deal that will keep him with the club until the end of 2027.

Lyons, 27, came through the Vikings academy system, making his debut back in 2018 against Leeds Rhinos. He has gone on to make 151 appearances for the club, scoring 27 tries.

He appeared in 15 of our 29 fixtures this season, with his 2025 season being cut short due to an unfortunate ankle injury in the Vikings Round 16 defeat to Oldham.

On his new deal, Lyons said: “I’m made up to have committed to the club for the next two years. I’ve been here for a while now so it was a bit of a no-brainer to extend.

“Playing for my hometown club is a big thing because, since I was little, all I wanted to do was play for Widnes. The fans have been a massive part of my time here, no matter the results, they always turn out and back the lads, which is brilliant.

“It’s been a bit of a frustrating year for me with injury, it’s something I’ve not ever really had to deal with before. I’ve just been trying to get on with my rehab and now I just can’t wait to get stuck into the pre-season.”

Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “Joey’s had a frustrating end to the season with injury, but he’s a guy that lives and breathes this club. In my tenure, he’s played near enough every game before his injury.

“He’s a player that prides himself on those effort-based areas, and I think the best is still to come from him.

“It was a no-brainer for us and we’ll be looking to bring another half back in to get some real competition for next year, which can only benefit us.”

Joe is sponsored by Widiots Events for 2025.

Retentions like this are assisted by the fantastic Widnes VIPS scheme in place to assist in strengthening the Vikings’ squad. If fans wish to sign up for the scheme, they can do so here

Everyone at the club is delighted to see Joe extend his stay and can’t wait to see him pulling on the jersey for the next two years.
