Bon Secours Health has opened its new €213m private hospital in Ballysimon in Limerick.
The new Limerick hospital is the first new acute hospital built in Ireland in nearly two decades and represents one of the largest healthcare investments ever made in the Mid-West region.
The phased opening begins with the relocation of the first set of services, including the hospital’s new cardiac catheterisation laboratory – the first such private cath lab in Limerick and the wider Mid-West.
In the coming weeks, the hospital will expand further, relocating additional services including surgery and related specialties. In the months ahead, it will also broaden access to a wide range of specialties including cardiology, respiratory medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, dermatology and advanced diagnostic imaging.
Alan Sharp, Group chief executive of Bon Secours Health System, said the opening of the new private hospital marks yet another proud milestone for the company and for healthcare in Ireland.
“This €213m investment reflects our long-term commitment to expand access to high-quality care, supporting medical innovation and creating meaningful employment opportunities in the Mid-West,” he said.
Jason Kenny, CEO of Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, said the company’s investment represents a major commitment to both patients and the community.
“From day one, patients will benefit from access to cutting-edge technology and expert care. This hospital will not only help transform healthcare delivery, but it will also create strong and sustainable career opportunities for hundreds of healthcare professionals in the region,” Mr Kenny added.
