A body has been found by police searching for a man who was last seen 48 hours ago. Richard Thornton was last seen in the early hours of Saturday.
Appeals had been made on social media by friends and his family appealing for help to locate him. Doorbell footage showed a taxi leaving an address just before 5am on Saturday from the Werneth Low area which had picked Mr Thornton up.
Werneth Low – a country park on the Tamside and Stockport border. The villages of Woodley, Greave, Gee Cross, Mottram and Romiley lie on the sides of the low.
In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: “We can confirm that the body of who we believe to be missing man, Richard Thornton, has sadly been found deceased this morning off Mottram Old Road, Hyde (16 September).
“Richard was reported missing to us on Saturday and enquiries had been ongoing since to locate him.
“Formal identification is yet to take place, however Richard’s family have been informed of this update and are being supported by specially trained officers.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Richard’s death, and a file will be passed to the coroner.”

Ring doorbell footage shows a taxi taking Mr Thornton from the location he was last seen at 4..48am on Saturday.
It adds that after being picked up his last location from his phone was near Stockport’s Stepping Hill Hospital.
Crimewatchers Security had also issued an appela for help in finding Mr Thornton on behalf of his family.
