Brother and sister TV stars Daisy May and Charlie Cooper’s love of the paranormal has brought them to York.

The pair, beloved for their performance in hilarious mock documentary This Country, have reunited for a new spooky show.

Daisy May and Charlie Cooper’s NightWatch sees the siblings locked in together – overnight, in some of the spookiest and reputedly most haunted places in the country.

They have filmed six half hour episodes for the upcoming BBC Two show.

Among their overnight locations is “a creepy cinema in York”. This hasn’t been identified as yet. But there’s a few possibilities.

At the Everyman on Blossom Street, built as the Odeon in 1937, “team members have watched guests disappear into thin air, seen doors slam shut by themselves, and heard footsteps running through the bar long after everyone had left”.

“When a Medium came to investigate, he spoke of a ghost sobbing on the staircase, a pair of ushers watching guests take their seats, and the ghost of a man sitting in Screen 1, sofa D10…”

There have also been apparations at City Screen, found in the former home of the Yorkshire Evening Press. A projectionist there said she had seen a spirit, and there were said to be Roman soldiers haunting the basement.

During their filming in York in the spring Charlie and Daisy May were seen tucking into chips from Drakes on Low Petergate.

They also visited some other spooky spots including the grave of highwayman Dick Turpin in St George’s Churchyard, George Street, and the Golden Fleece on Pavement, which says it is one of the most haunted pubs in Britain.

They are also reported to have filmed at the Duke of York pub in King’s Square.

In Daisy May and Charlie Cooper’s NightWatch, they will explore the history of each place before being left to their own devices, which is when the fun will really begin.

From midnight, the clock will start to slowly countdown to dawn as they try to settle down for a ‘good’ night’s sleep…

Catherine Catton, BBC Head of Factual Entertainment and Events comments, “We are really looking forward to spending the night with Daisy May and Charlie Cooper in some of the UK’s spookiest places.”

Lisa Clark, Executive Producer, comments: “Working with Daisy May and Charlie in some of the spookiest buildings in the UK was terrifying – but also a lot of fun.”

Daisy May and Charlie comment: “We’ve both had a brush with the paranormal, and really do love the concept of life after death, so we thought this could be the perfect way to prove to the world that we’re not delusional. It will be a miracle if we both come out alive and well.”

The show is made by Daisy May and Charlie Cooper’s production company, So Humble.

Their Bafta-winning BBC Three mockumentary This Country, where they starred as cousins Kerry and Lee “Kurtan” Mucklowe, was a huge hit.

Daisy May went on to co-write and star in Am I Being Unreasonable? and also starred in the first series of Last One Laughing on Amazon Prime.

Daisy May and Charlie Cooper’s NightWatch will be screened at a date to be announced this autumm. You can add it to your BBC iPlayer Watchlist here.
