These horses have trialled pleasingly in recent weeks and this week (18/9/25), they head back to the racetrack.

Sandy Shore (4m Sunshine Beach – Stradowan) Tr. S & A Telfer

Off the scene for 10 months then reappeared at Rangiora trials (10/9/25), settled last of 7 and still there with 500m to run, doing her best work over final 100m to get within 2L of winner Don’t Tell Jenny, officially fourth. MR:2:02.8, 800m in 58.0, 400m in 27.7. Sandy’s sectionals would have been much better than those above and should have improved greatly with that run under her belt. Sneaks down to Winton this Thursday for top stable in Race 4 and has secured the pole over 1609m against her own sex. Likely to have the favourite on her back but that trial was very encouraging.

Evangalist (7m Shadyshark Hanover – Pretty Dollybird) Tr. J & I Thomas

10-race winning mare up for a new campaign. Primed by recent trials, the last at Ashburton (9/9/25) where she led three rivals and at no time was she tested, went to the line boldly cutting her last 800m out in 55secs, last 400m in 25.9. Another getting down to Winton this Thursday (Race 6) where she comes up against another Telfer runner set to resume in Rock Band (trial winner 10/9/25). The mare has won $136k and has drawn inside a key rival. Expecting her to be very competitive on her return to racing

Cath ( 2f Sweet Lou – Fancy) Tr. B Hill

Won a trial at Rangiora (13/8/25) then has backed it up with two very solid placings on race day, the last at Addington (31/8/25) where she pushed those ahead of her over the line. That race won by Smackdown in a 1:58.8MR, 800m in 55.8, 400m in 26.1. Third up at Addington this Friday (Race 5) in a Sires’ Stakes heat against her own sex where she has drawn the middle of the front line. Up against some nice fillies from good stables but her own stable firing at the moment and she looks full of promise

Habibti Pat (3f Father Patrick – Habibti Ivy) Tr. G & B Hope

Very good filly from last campaign and she won 5 of her 10 starts (+ $137k) although things didn’t quite go as planned when campaigned in Auckland back in May. Primed by recent trials and super at Rangiora (10/9/25) where she led and wasn’t extended to hold 3 rivals at bay. MR:2:03.5, 800m in 58.7, 400m in 28.7. Resumes at Addington this Friday in Race 6 where she has drawn the outside of her six rivals but that might not be enough to keep her out. Top driver Blair Orange, who drove her in the trial, sticks with her. Her class will take her close to winning.

Fugitive (2g Downbytheseaside – Cant Teach That) Tr. C & C Dalgety

Smart 2YO resuming at Alex Park this Friday in a very strong Sires’ Stakes heat over 1700m (Race 7) where he has drawn sweetly at 3. Primed by recent trials at Rangiora, the last on September 10 where he ran on from the 500m to stretch out nicely over the final stages for third behind Rock Band. MR:2:01.1, 800m in 56.1, 400m in 26.7. Has raced very well at Auckland previously and never further back than second in race day career so far. Plenty of depth in this field but the draw looks ideal. Carter going north to take the drive.

Macho Man (4g Muscle Mass – Cream Of The Crop) Tr. K Townley

Impressive trial winner at Rangiora (10/9/25) where he trailed in third before moving up around final turn to run away from rivals with ease last 150m.
MR:2:12.8, 800m in 60.0, 400m in 28.4. Resumes this Sunday at Bank Peninsula (Race 2) where the day is characterised by big even fields on the grass. The Townley runner has been placed in six of his 10 starts including on the grass surface behind the likes of Lotties Moment and Brett’s Mate. He stepped nicely in his trial and confidence levels would increase even further if he got to draw the front line. Not going to be a maiden for too much longer.
