Ciaran Power, the former pro cyclist and Olympian, has had this very expensive bike stolen right from under his nose

Ciaran Power, a former professional cyclist from Wateford, has had his top end racing bike stolen from his office while he was on the premises working.

Power, an Olympian who finished 13th in the road race at the Athens Games in 2004, now rides for fun and participates in some sportives.

However, his bike, valued at €14,000, is now in the hands of thieves and Power has appealed for people to look out for it.

He is hopeful the fact it is such a distinctive bike – a Trek Emonda with Sram Red Groupset and Zipp 808 wheels – it will be spotted by someone in the road racing community who could alert gardaí.

Power told stickybottle the frame was new and he was very keen to be reunited with the bike, and very annoyed it was stolen, especially at how brazen the thieves were.

“This bike was stolen from my office at 19 O’Connell St Waterford today in the afternoon,” he said in a brief social media post in which he also shared an image of the bike, above.

“It’s a Trek Emonda with Sram Red Groupset and Zipp 808 wheels, size 60.It’s a very distinctive high end bike please keep an eye out and share this post please.

“The thief had the balls to walk into my clinic and grab the bike when I was working in the room next door.”

More to come.
