Memory Of Mum’s excellent box manners has placed Toowoomba trainer Mark Saal on a path that may lead to his inaugural Molly Campbell Silver Dollars trophy.

The Aussie Infrared x Brockie Magic bitch has drawn Box 4 in the third of four heats of the prestigious 520m event on the Ladbrokes Q2 Parklands circuit on Thursday night.

The ‘Molly Campbell’ feature, named after the publisher of the long-running Queensland Greyhound Form Guide, was first contested in 1974.

In that time this age-restricted race has trumpeted the arrival of some of the best chasers to emerge in Queensland.

Saal hopes that is again the case this year, especially if his promising Memory Of Mum can salute.

“This is a historic and notable race series,” he said.

“I haven’t had the privilege of winning it so far, but this year I am hopeful. You can never really be more than that.”

Memory Of Mum is owned and bred by Warwick dog man Pat Gainey, who named the bitch in honour of his mother, who passed away about 12 months ago.

Another of the litter, Wildash Jane (Robert Cooke), is in the opening heat on Thursday night.

Saal says Memory Of Mum has the potential to put herself in the race on Thursday night with blistering speed out of the boxes.
