Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching on Thursday and what’s on the radar for Friday’s session. The small caps new record The Russell 2000 hit a record high Thursday. It is now up 10.7% year to date. The Russell 2000 is up 7.6% in a month and 4.3% so far in September. .RUT 1Y mountain Russell 2000 performance over the past year. Also hitting highs The Nasdaq Composite is up 16% in 2025. The Nasdaq 100 is up 16% in 2025 also. The S & P 500 is up 12.8% in 2025. The Dow is up 8.5% in 2025. Oranges Production in the great state of Florida has sunk to lows not seen since 1932. The U.S. was in the midst of the Great Depression, parts of the country were in the Dust Bowl and experiencing terrible drought, and Amelia Earhart completed her solo flight over the Atlantic Ocean from Newfoundland to Northern Ireland. Frozen concentrated orange juice futures are getting squeezed, down 51%. The private equity stocks CNBC’s Leslie Picker was watching KKR, Blue Owl Capital, Apollo Global Management, Ares, Blackstone and Carlyle today and will continue to keep an eye on these big names tomorrow. KKR was up 3.4% today, and is 12% from its January high. Blue Owl was up 2.9% today. Shares are 28% from the January high. Apollo was up 3.4% today. Shares are 24% from a December high. Ares was up 2.5% today, and the stock is 8.5% from its February high. Blackstone was up 2.8% today. Shares are 6% from a November high. CEO Steve Schwarzman was one of many executives with President Donald Trump in the U.K. today. Carlyle was up 2.6% today. The stock hit a new high today. FedEx up after earnings FedEx shares are up more than 5% after the bell. The company beat earnings expectations this afternoon. CNBC’s Frank Holland will have more on the stock’s jump and the company’s future on “WorldWide Exchange” starting at 5 a.m. ET. It’s worth waking up to watch. FDX 6M mountain Federal Express shares over the past six months. The Fed reaction Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari will be on “Squawk Box” tomorrow. Bonds sold off and yields picked up ground on Thursday after Wednesday’s Fed decision . The 10-year is 4.11%. The 2-year is 3.57%. The 3-month is now 3.98%. The iPhone 17’s launch “The Air” goes on sale Friday. Shares of Apple are flat since Sept. 9, when the iPhone 17 was unveiled . The stock is down 5% year to date, but up 21% in three months. AAPL YTD mountain Apple shares year to date. China We’ll keep watching the big China ETFs and Chinese stocks as Trump gets set to speak with President Xi Jinping. TikTok is expected to be on the agenda, but so are several other big topics with implications for business. We’ll be watching it in real time and report as the information comes in. Investment giant David Tepper was on “Squawk Box” this morning, he said, “you can’t beat the Fed” but high valuations were concerning . Since his big call on “Squawk Box” on Sept. 26, 2024 , when he was asked what he would buy in terms of China (The answer was “buy everything”), the iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXI) is up 39%. The iShares MSCI China ETF (MCHI) is up more than 40% since Tepper’s “Squawk Box” call. The KraneShares China Internet ETF (KWEB) is up around 43% since the call.
