Rumour: Kratos to Wield 'Egyptian Sword' in God of War's Next Main Game 1

God of War has a habit of introducing players to some seriously iconic weaponry, and if Kratos really is heading to Egypt for the next stretch of his journey, it seems this trend could continue.

The Greek-era games brought us the unique Blades of Chaos, of course, while the Norse duology saw our hero favour the frosty Leviathan axe.

Now, in a podcast, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has said the next mainline God of War title will introduce an “Egyptian sword” as Kratos’ weapon of choice.

He doesn’t go into much detail, only saying it’ll be like the one used by the prince in Prince of Persia. It’s likely a scimitar, in that case, but could potentially be a khopesh.

Either way, Henderson’s comments only reinforce the notion that the next major God of War games will explore Egyptian mythology.

Egypt is teased directly in the Norse games, if you’re paying close enough attention, and we’ve seen concept art depicting the mythology too. Insider Gaming itself has already made claims about the setting in a previous report.

A major new game might not be the next God of War game released, however; other rumours suggest a spin-off will take the series back to ancient Greece in a side-scrolling Metroidvania in 2026.

It might be some time before we learn if all this stuff about an Egyptian saga is real, then, but we’re starting to feel the amount of hearsay is becoming pretty convincing. And, as mentioned, the setting is nodded to in the Norse titles.
