Shabana Azmi turned 75 on September 18 and her friends and family overwhelmed her with loving wishes. Joining the list is Shibani Akhtar, who shared a slew of unseen pictures. The first picture featured Shabana lovingly kissing Shibani. The other pictures showed them posing with some of their loved ones.
Along with the pictures, Shibani wrote, “To my darling mother-in-law and the Don of our Cartel! Happy 75th birthday! May you always be wild, free and full of spunk! Hope this year is as magical as you are. Love you loads.” Apart from Shibani, Farhan Akhtar also shared a candid photo and wished for Shabana Azmi. The unseen photograph shows Shabana and Farhan laughing together. Farhan wrote, “Happy belated birthday, Shabana.. have the best year yet.. filled with deep meaningful conversation and frivolous antakshari’s, work travel and girl trips, ambition and abandon .. but please please in this landmark year… say NO to cucumber sandwiches..!! Love you.”
Zoya Akhtar also wished Shabana Azmi with a special throwback picture. She shared a black and white picture of the actress and wrote, “Flower and Power… Happy Birthday, Shabana…Here’s to 75 more…”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shabana Azmi was recently seen in the web series Dabba Cartel. Released in February 2025, the show also stars Anjali Anand, Shalini Pandey and Jyothika in key roles. Netflix’s Dabba Cartel follows the journey of five middle-class women who manage a dabba (lunchbox) company, which takes them into the hazardous world of drug cartels. As the secret lives of these women unravel, one question remains: how far would they go to protect themselves and their families? The show provides a glimpse inside the labyrinth of greed, betrayal, and unexpected alliances. The show is produced by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, with Shibani, Vishnu Menon, Gaurav Kapur, and Akanksha Seda as creators. It was co-written by Bhavna Kher and Vishnu Menon. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
