ROGERS, Ark. —

Weather conditions were front and center at the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship on Saturday.

Players and officials at Pinnacle Country Club felt the impact of Mother Nature as heavy rain, thunder and lightning impacted day two of tournament play.

Organizers delayed tee times until 11:15 a.m. before suspending play for the remainder of the day at 3:30 p.m. due to weather concerns.

Admissions gates closed to the public at 2:45 p.m.Organizers say that with an outdoor sport like golf, they will play through rain, but not lightning. Players and officials took shelter in the Pinnacle Clubhouse as inclement weather rolled in Saturday afternoon.

“For me, it was a slow start to the day,” said Megan Khang, a player from Massachusetts. “Overall, it’s been trying to stay patient and not be too anxious to get back out there.”

She said during the downtime, her and other players took the chance to rest and refuel ahead of a busy weekend.

“We just sat and dined for a little bit, had a second breakfast,” Khang said. “As we got more notice of the delays, a couple friends and I went to get coffees just to stay preoccupied and try not to think too much about how the weather is today.”

Players say there are various challenges to golfing in the rain.

“There’s an adjustment on how slow or soft the shots are coming to the greens, and obviously being a bit more wet than usual,” said Sofia Garcia, a player from Paraguay.

But as players in an outdoor sport, it’s nothing they haven’t seen before.

“It’s kind of normal for us to be able to figure out what to do on a rainy day, just kind of be patient,” Garcia said. “Shortly after the first couple of holes, you get a feel for how the course is really playing and try to do your best and adjust as quick as you can,” Khang said.

Rachel Reece, NW Arkansas Championship tournament director, says that anyone who bought a grounds ticket for Saturday will be able to redeem it on Sunday.

For people who purchased a ticket to the BITE Experience on Saturday, Reece says they can’t accommodate those tickets on Sunday due to their capacity, but tickets will be refunded and purchasers will be given complimentary grounds tickets.
