Padel tennis has proven to be extremely popular, with a number of courts springing up in Warrington and across the country as a whole.
Now, full planning permission is sought from Warrington Borough Council’s planning department for land to the rear of Village Hotel, located on Centre Park.
The hotel chain wishes to convert the existing tennis court to accommodate five padel tennis courts, with permission also sought for a canopy structure.
Planning documents state: “The application site is located within Village Hotel Warrington, to the rear of the hotel building.
“It currently comprises two disused tennis courts and some trees. The site is screened by trees to its north, east, and south.
“Padel is a racket sport that draws influence from tennis and squash. It is played in doubles on an enclosed court where players can use the walls to return shots.
“Village Hotels will develop this facility to supplement its existing leisure offer for its customers.
“The proposed padel courts will be accessible to hotel guests and members of the public who hold memberships at the hotel.”
The development proposals comprise engineering works to accommodate five padel courts.
Glass screens would be installed around the perimeter of each sports surface as part of the sports facilities.
“All of the sport surfaces and the glass screens are contained under an arched canopy, which will be a lightweight structure supported by metal columns with mesh side screens,” plans add.
“This will allow the facility to be used in all weather conditions and also absorb noise.
“Each court will be lighted by four court lights, which will be installed below the canopy shelter.
“Enclosure fencing is proposed outside and around the perimeter of the canopy to secure the facilities.
“It will be 2.4m high and finished in dark green to minimise visual impact.”
