Both Newcastle United and Liverpool could miss out on Marc Guehi next summer when he becomes a free agent.

A year after Newcastle United tried and failed to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace, Liverpool entered the mix.

During a deadline day in which they also signed Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, it looked as if the Premier League champions would also land Guehi.

However, Palace eventually pulled the plug on the deal during the closing stages of the window and the England international remained at Selhurst Park.

He’s now into the final year of his contract and, if he doesn’t leave in January, will have his pick of clubs next summer when he will be available on a free transfer.

Sadly for Newcastle and Liverpool, however, the appeal of a potential move to Real Madrid might be too much for Guehi.

According to The Daily Mirror, Guehi has told his camp he would like to move to Real Madrid next summer.

The club have been linked with the former Chelsea youngster before and have previously adopted a strategy in which they wait for high-profile players to run down their contracts.

Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all joined Los Blancos on free transfers.

The report adds that Reds defender Ibrahima Konate could join Guehi in the Spanish capital, which may leave “Liverpool in the cold.”

Why Newcastle United didn’t move for Marc Guehi in 2025

Geordie Boot Boys understood that Guehi remained of interest to Newcastle during the summer transfer window just gone.

That’s only natural, of course. The club went to great lengths to try and sign him last summer, so they were always unlikely to have gone very cold on him just a year later.

However, as per Craig Hope of The Daily Mail, Newcastle did not want to get dragged into another summer-long saga with Palace over Guehi

The Magpies ended up signing Malick Thiaw to strengthen their defensive options, with the German making his first start for the club away at Bournemouth on Sunday.
