Viktor Hovland could be set for another awkward appearance at the Ryder Cup gala this week.

The Team Europe star was involved in a string of funny snaps during the 2023 edition of the event.

Hovland will once again be part of Luke Donald’s squad after being named as one of six captain’s picks.

It will be his third consecutive Ryder Cup appearance, although he caught the eye off the course just as much as on it two years ago in Italy.

The Norwegian was put in a tricky position two days prior to the start of the event at Marco Simone in Rome.

Hovland had been left without a date for the gala as the only member of Team Europe without a wife or girlfriend.

As his team-mates made their way to the special dinner hand-in-hand with their partners, Hovland looked set to make the walk on his own.

However, the world number 15 was spared the embarrassment at the last moment by a Ryder Cup legend.

Vice-captain Jose Maria Olazabal instead partnered Hovland, with the pair even holding hands as they were pictured alongside the rest of the team.

They could be seen laughing during the light-hearted moment in the Italian capital.

Another snap later showed Hovland receiving a helping hand with his tie from Tommy Fleetwood.

The 27-year-old would go on to have an impressive weekend as the Europeans clinched the Ryder Cup in dominant fashion.

He ended the event with a 3-1-1 record including a record-breaking foursomes victory alongside Ludvig Aberg.

Their 9&7 win over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka is the biggest 18-hole match triumph in Ryder Cup history.

Hovland ultimately secured 3.5 points for the hosts across his five matches as they sealed a 16.5 – 11.5 victory.

The win cued wild celebrations at Marco Simone as the players were joined by their wives and girlfriends again.

This prompted another iconic photo involving Hovland and Olazabal, although they were able to see the funny side once again.

As the rest of the team kissed their partners in front of the cameras, the duo stood side by side with beaming smiles.

Hovland was later joined by the WAGs for another snap, holding up the trophy as they posed around him.

Is Viktor Hovland single?

The 27-year-old could be put in a similar situation at the 2025 Ryder Cup later this month.

Team Europe and Team USA will once again clash in the 45th staging of the event at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26 to 28.

As in Rome two years ago, Hovland heads into the event without a partner and is currently single.

He has tasted success on the course this year, though, winning his seventh PGA Tour event.

That victory came back in March at the Valspar Championship as Hovland finished one shot clear of Justin Thomas in Florida.
