Ashlett Dale Rest Home on Stonehills were told that there was some lack of sufficient information within residents’ medicines records and that “some elements of care did not meet the expected standards”.

The home has since fired back and said that staff have worked hard to “rectify the minor shortfalls” identified in the inspection held in December 2024, slamming the CQC for publishing the report months “after the event”.

Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found two breaches of the regulations in the areas of staffing and good governance.

The assessment itself was carried out in response to concerns about how falls were managed, including risk assessment and incident reporting.

Inspectors praised that the manager promoted a learning culture, but that it would be “better supported” through more robust systems and processes of management.

The report said that care plans and risk assessments were “sometimes generic” and that follow up actions were “not always recorded or monitored effectively”.

Inspectors said: “Systems and procedures for recruiting new staff were not robust. The registered manager told us staff were supervised whilst they were waiting for their full DBS to come through but could not produce any evidence of this in relation to 2 staff whose records we reviewed.

“The registered manager informed us of the actions they are taking to address this. Staff received training and completion of this was monitored. Competency checks did not always take place or were not recorded.”

Those who spoke to the inspectors though heaped praise on the care home, speaking positively about the staff and their ability to meet their needs.

One person told the CQC that staff “couldn’t be nicer” and are “wonderful”.

A spokesperson for Ashlett Dale Rest Home said: “CQC completed a partial assessment of the Home in December 2024, sadly despite the well-publicised issues with their inspection system the report has been published six months after the event.

“Management and staff worked hard at the time to rectify the minor shortfalls identified last year.

“All at Ashlett Dale work tirelessly to support our residents and we are delighted with the many positive comments throughout the report from those who call our service home.”
