Jasmine Paolini is turning into something of a Billie Jean King Cup specialist.

Last year, she was the star of the show as Italy defeated Slovakia 2-0 to win the competition and history has now repeated itself.

One year on, Italy have claimed a sixth title, with Paolini beating Jessica Pegula to get her country over the line for another title.

Paolini praised Pegula after the comprehensive win that gave Italy an unassailable lead and another Billie Jean King title.

Fellow players dished praise to Paolini after her exploits at the tournament and it would appear that her achievements are considered big with a respected figure in her home nation.

There has clearly been a bit of a tennis boom in Italy in recent years, with Jannik Sinner one of the world’s best, Lorenzo Musetti considered a top 10 player and Paolini doing it for the women.

Sinner has won two Grand Slam titles in 2025, but according to Binaghi, the President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, he believes what Paolini has done possibly trumps Sinner’s success this year.

Binaghi told Giovanni Pelazzo on Super Tennis TV: “Sinner won two Slams, Musetti had an extraordinary season, but if someone had asked me what I dreamed of winning one day, I would have said the Italian Open in singles and doubles and the Davis Cup.

That’s exactly what Paolini did this year: she couldn’t win the Davis Cup, but she won the BJK Cup. She achieved a combination this year that is perhaps the most beautiful of all”

È esattamente quello che ha fatto Paolini… pic.twitter.com/SPOJJhFhHM

Paolini will now fancy Grand Slam glory

For whatever reason, Paolini simply loves the Billie Jean King Cup and always brings her best tennis to the event.

Last year, her form was no surprise as Paolini had reached two Grand Slam finals, but this year her form has been somewhat more sporadic.

Now, Paolini must use this as a chance to kick on and get over the line in her quest to win a Grand Slam title in future years.

In beating a player like Pegula, Paolini can clearly perform against the top players, and now she has to retain that belief at bigger tournaments.

Clearly, Paolini won’t see this achievement as bigger than anything Sinner has done in the game, but nonetheless, it’s nice to see it valued highly by the nation’s tennis president.
