The Big Bang Theory spin-off Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has shared an exciting update. The series was confirmed by HBO Max in July and now, just two months later, production has officially begun.

Taking to Instagram, Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady shared a behind-the-scenes look at the series, which didn’t give away much, but did reveal the show’s logo which appears to include the same atom symbol as its predecessor. Prady captioned the photo: “Here we go!”

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will centre on comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, with Kevin Sussman reprising the role for the new series.

Big Bang Theory stars including Lauren Lapkus (Denise), Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler) and John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke) will also be reprising their roles.

The series will see Stuart “tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon”.

The synopsis adds: “Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise (Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Posehn), and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke (Bowie).

“Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory. As the title implies, things don’t go well.”

The premise seems a little far away from the regular sitcom settings of Big Bang Theory and previous spin-off Young Sheldon, but co-creator Chuck Lorre has said that’s the point.

In a press release he commented: “I wanted to do something radical that would take me out of my comfort zone. Something the characters on The Big Bang Theory, would have loved, hated, and argued about.”

The Big Bang Theory finished in 2019 after 12 seasons and 279 episodes. Spin-off Young Sheldon aired its final episode last May, just a few months before its spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage began airing.
