High street bakery chain Greggs is launching its first-ever pub with a menu of exclusive ales, iconic bakes and of course its famous sausage rolls.
The Golden Flake Tavern will open its doors within Newcastle’s Fenwick department store, pouring its inaugural pint this Saturday.
Two bespoke draught beers – the Pink Jammie Pale Ale and Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager – have been crafted in collaboration with Newcastle-based Full Circle Brew Co specially for the launch.
The comprehensive bar will also boast a Greggs-themed cocktail selection.
Patrons can select from 15 Greggs-influenced traditional pub fare options, featuring chicken bake Parmo, steak bake mixed grill, sausage roll & mash and a Greggs ploughman’s selection.
The pudding offerings include yum yum bread & butter pudding and pink jammie trifle, comprising doughnut segments suspended in jelly, garnished with jam, custard and whipped cream.
The classic Sunday roast – dubbed the establishment’s “piece de resistance” – presents a choice of steak bake, chicken bake or cheese & onion bake as the main attraction, accompanied by sides such as cauliflower cheese, roasted potatoes and Yorkshire puddings.
The venue will stage a quiz evening every Tuesday from October 7, with entry priced at £5 for groups of up to six participants. The Golden Flake represents the newest partnership between Greggs and Fenwick, building upon Bistro Greggs in December 2023, which offered a multi-course menu of elevated Greggs interpretations, and the Greggs Champagne Bar in 2024, where 8,000 visitors enjoyed sausage rolls paired with bubbly throughout the nine-week experience.
Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, said: “Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick – Bistro by Greggs in 2023 and the Greggs Champagne Bar last year – we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together.
“The Golden Flake Tavern brings a fresh twist to the traditional British pub experience and we hope everyone who joined us before, along with many new faces, will come along to enjoy this unique Greggs experience.”
Fenwick strategic partnerships director Leo Fenwick said: “This latest collaboration celebrates the best of both brands, pairing Greggs‘ much-loved classics with our own distinctive approach to creating memorable in-store experiences.
“As two North East icons, we’re proud to work together again in offering customers something playful, surprising and truly unique in the heart of Newcastle.”
The establishment accommodates 88 diners at maximum capacity, including bar seating.
Bookings are recommended for those wishing to dine and can be secured with Fenwick from midday on Thursday.
Drop-ins are equally welcomed. The pub will continue to welcome patrons until 15 February next year.
