It has been branded as a ‘remarkable year’ for the women of Kendal Golf Club, who have achieved ‘success after success’ across a range of prestigious competitions in Cumbria and beyond.

Jane Law, Chair of the Ladies Section, said: “We are really proud of our lady golfers and the hard-work put in to gain these achievements.

“Many thanks to our local sponsor Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake – we’re loving our mint green shirts.”

In May, the team travelled to Heysham to compete in the historic Westmorland and North Lancs Shield, a tournament contested by 15 clubs since 1928 – with Kendal taking the glory by 15 shots.

More silverware arrived in June at Brampton, when the Kendal Ladies lifted the One Day Team Trophy.

Players also travelled to Windermere for the Westmorland Bronze Shield, and Kendal emerged victorious again.

In September, the team went to Appleby for the Elizabethan Salver, established in 1977 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee – it would come down to a single shot for Kendal to claim the title.

Kendal’s Silver Handicap team once again proved dominant in the Cumbria League, securing the top division win for the fourth consecutive year.

Meanwhile, The Bronze Team, competing in the Cecil Leitch League, won the top division for the third year running.

Individual success included Rosie Waller at the Cumbria Vets Silver Championship held at Seascale in April, who took the county title after a knockout match-play series, while Cherry Archer won the Cumbria Vets Bronze Championship in the Stableford format.

Rosie was also selected for Cumbria in the Northern Counties Match Week at Hessle and won the Nett prize in the County Champion of Champions event.

The year was ultimately capped off with national recognition – in the Daily Mail Foursomes, Kendal’s pairing of Rosie Waller and Sue Howell earned a place at the finals in Chepstow later this September, where 16 of the best pairs from across Britain will compete.
