The state pensioners having their payment bumped up to the “maximum” amount by the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) have been revealed.

Some state pensioners will see their payments TREBLED to £300 in the form of the Winter Fuel Payment. It comes as some other retirees will be handed just £100 from the DWP in the form of the Winter Fuel Allowance.

Winter Fuel Payments of £100 will be issued to eligible people resident in care homes while those aged between 66 and 79 will get £200 and pensioners aged 80 and over will receive the maximum amount of £300.

It follows a Labour Party government u-turn which has seen the payment extended to nine MILLION more older people.

Labour Party Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed earlier this year that “more people will get Winter Fuel Payment this winter”, adding that further details will be announced “as soon as we possibly can”.

She said: “People should be in no doubt that the means test will increase and more people will get Winter Fuel Payment this winter.”

Reacting to the u-turn, BBC and ITV star Martin Lewis, the founder of Money Saving Expert, said: “I heard [this] while walking to the office, so please forgive the fact it was done there and then for speed.”

Torsten Bell, the pensions minister, confirmed Labour and HMRC would clawback the payment from state pensioners who have £35,000 or more income.

“Directly on your question of is there any prospect of a universal Winter Fuel Payment, the answer is no,” Mr Bell said.

Speaking out, he added: “The principle I think most people, 95% of people, agree, that it’s not a good idea that we have a system paying a few hundreds of pounds to millionaires, and so we’re not going to be continuing with that.

“But we will be looking at making more pensioners eligible.”
