Crimdon Beach seal pup saved after op on severely infected eye

When he was rescued at a few weeks old, the pup weighed just 9.3kg (19.8lbs).

Despite the team’s care, his eye became ulcerated and the difficult decision was made to operate.

Richard Ilderton, lead volunteer at the seal hospital, said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of the team, the ulcer caused the eye to rupture, meaning it would need an operation to remove it.”
