High-flying Leigh are once again just 80 minutes away from a first Old Trafford visit after dominating Wakefield 26-10 in the first play-off eliminator, setting up another semi-final tie with fiercest rivals Wigan.

However, the win came with allegations against superstar half-back Lachlan Lam for unacceptable language, accused by Wakefield’s Mason Lino with an official complaint made to referee Liam Moore in the second half.

Lam, 27, was once again instrumental for the Leopards, including his fifth 40/20 of the season and recording another assist in an impressive campaign, setting up Josh Charnley.

“I don’t know too much about it to be honest, I’ve just been backwards and forwards,” head coach Adrian Lam said.

“I’ll get to the bottom of it as soon as I can now you’ve mentioned it. I’m not too sure what that is.

“I forgot all about this and I’m not a fan of it. We’ll just have to try and address it as soon as possible and move on quickly.”

Borough rivals Wigan and Leigh met at the same stage last year, with Matt Peet’s side claiming a 38-0 win on their way to Grand Slam glory. But Leigh head into next week’s showdown in hot form, having hosted their first-ever Super League knockout match.

The hosts dominated the tie against Daryl Powell’s Wakefield with tries from Keanan Brand, Isaac Liu, Charnley and Tuitavake.

“It’s a great achievement for the group, giving ourselves the same opportunity as we had last year with 80 minutes away from Old Trafford,” head coach Lam continued.

“It’s been a long season, but a nice way to finish our last home game like that.

“I thought the first half was fantastic,” Leigh’s Lam added. “I’m proud. There was a lot to play for, for the fans and for the group.

“I thought we managed that second half and got through it in good shape. I was happy with that.

“We’ve got a seven-day turnaround until Wigan. We’ll rest up, enjoy tonight as I thought it was a special night and our first home play-off, and we’ll go into work on Monday.”
