There has been yet more change and yet another statement out of Featherstone Rovers with the Championship club in disarray.

Facing a HMRC winding up petition, it’s not just finances that are worrying the club off-field but also personnel with chairman Paddy Handley resigning this past week.

That’s seen former chair Mark Campbell return, despite stepping away from the club last year, and a fresh statement from Campbell has highlighted more issues and another departure from the club.

It’s been announced that CEO Martin Vickers has left with immediate effect with the club now undertaking the process of finding a replacement, as well as conducting their own financial review so that fans and creditors can be updated.

The most interesting line from the new update is that not all members on the board of directors attended an ‘urgent meeting’, something that has left Campbell ‘disappointed’.

It’s yet another nod to uncertainty at Featherstone with Handley’s resignation letter noting ‘varying agendas’ as a key issue at Rovers.

Serious About Rugby League has launched a brand new podcast which can be watched in full on our YouTube channel here.

Featherstone Rovers lose another senior figure as fresh statement issued

Campbell’s full statement was shared via the club’s social media and titled as an ‘update from Mark Campbell’.

In full, it read: “I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for your continued support following my recent announcement on returning to the club. Please be assured that our actions will always prioritize the best interests of the club, and we will keep you informed of any significant developments as they arise.

“This morning, an urgent meeting was organised with the current board of directors. Whilst most members attended I am disappointed that some members did not attend. We had hoped this meeting would provide clarity on recent club matters during my absence.”

On Vickers, the statement confirmed: “I would also like to inform you that Martin Vickers has left the club effective immediately. We are actively in the process of appointing a new CEO and will communicate this decision at the appropriate time.

“As a valued fan, your support is crucial during this period. I encourage you to participate in our upcoming events, including the NCL Finals Day and the Bonfire Event, as these are vital opportunities to unite and strengthen our community.

“We are currently conducting a financial review and are dedicated to completing this process as swiftly as possible. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
