Hull FC forward Matty Laidlaw has secured his long-term future after penning a new contract extension with the club.
Laidlaw’s deal was extended for another season just last month, but the club have now felt it necessary to tie the young forward down for two further years. As such, Laidlaw is now contracted until the end of the 2028 Super League season, with the 21-year-old set to continue his development under John Cartwright at the MKM Stadium.
Laidlaw impressed when he had the opportunity to this season, with the five successive appearances he made towards the end of the campaign ensuring he ended the year with 10 Super League outings this year. He played important roles in wins over Leigh Leopards, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors and the prop was singled out for praise by his head coach on a number of occasions, too.
He has now played 23 times for the Black and Whites in total, having made his debut in 2022 and he’ll be keen to kick on and compete for a spot in what looks set to be one of the biggest packs in the competition next time around.
Hull have signed Sam Lisone and Harvie Hill to add to their front-row ranks next season, and with Herman Ese’ese, Ligi Sao, Yusuf Aydin, Brad Fash and Liam Knight all contracted for next season, Laidlaw will have his work cut out if he is to earn a regular spot.
But, he’s keen to continue learning and progressing next year and with his future secured, he can do just that.
Hull FC tie down Matty Laidlaw
“It’s really good to be able to secure my longer-term future because it just allows me to focus on myself over the next three years,” Laidlaw told the official Hull FC website.
“I’d say 2025 has been the best year of my career so far and it’s been nice to get a good run of games in the side.
“My focus is just to keep growing and building in 2026 and I’ve got some great team mates and coaching staff around me to help me keep developing.”
