India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup 2025 finale.

The Asia Cup 2025 ended on a thrilling note as India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a high-intensity finale. While India celebrated the victory without the trophy, the disappointment of Pakistanis at their third consecutive defeat to India was evident in their social media meltdown.

The India-Pakistan clashes were more politically-charged than before, coming five months after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. Despite starting well in the final, Pakistan endured a dramatic collapse, losing nine wickets in 33 runs in the middle overs.

While Pakistan’s bowling unit performed well, Haris Rauf conceded 50 runs in his 3.4 overs. Adding to this was a dropped catch, a missed run out, and Tilak Verma’s heroic 69* from 53 balls that sealed the match in India’s favour. Clips of fan reactions, YouTubers and Pakistani media flooded the internet, with many Pakistanis saying even amateurs can play better than Salman Ali Agha’s team.

“We are not capable of winning against India. It’s a fact. We cannot win against them. India humare baap the aur rahenge (India was our father and will remain so),” an angry Pakistani said. “Our generation cannot defeat them. We are not even equal to their shoes. They did the right thing by not shaking hands with us.”

“Disappointed again and again. This was the third match. We had some hope today, but there is no doubt India’s team is very strong,” a Pakistani fan from Dubai told news agency PTI on Sunday.

Another fan said, “I am very disappointed. We should not have lost. I always return from here (India-Pakistan matches) hurt. They have no shame. They should play for the 22 crore people who leave their work and spend their time and money to see them play.”

Pakistani journalist Hamza Chaudhry slammed the poor captaincy by not utilising capable bowlers, calling the final overs of the second innings a “suicide” for Team Pakistan. Another fan said, “We are very disappointed with Pakistan’s performance. The way Pakistan started batting with Farhan Sahibzada and Fakhar Zaman gave a good opening start to Pakistan, but then out wickets started falling one by one like fighter jets, breaking our hearts in pieces.”

Haris Rauf Under Fire

Haris Rauf, who made provocative ‘fighter plane’ gestures that sparked widespread outrage and a 30% match fee penalty, was the centre of social media trolling after his dismal performance with the ball. He conceded 50 overs in 3.4 overs, while the rest of the bowlers collectively conceded only 100 in 16 overs, as pointed out by cricket analyst Aakash Chopra.

“I have often asked experts about Haris Rauf. He is rated high but seems to be in the middle of it all when the opposition is winning,” said cricket expert Harsha Bhogle. “Meet Haris Rauf – the only guy who had more celebrations than wickets in this Asia Cup,” said another user. Some even called him a RAW agent actually playing for India.

Netizens were also quick to point out Haris Rauf’s role in the T20 World Cup 2022, when he bore the brunt of Virat Kohli’s majestic 82* that helped India stage a stunning comeback to chase 160 after requiring 48 runs in three overs.

“Saw Haris Rauf get torn apart live in 2022. Fast forward to 2025, and I’ve witnessed it happen three times in three weeks. Some things never change, except maybe the speed at which he’s becoming every batter’s favourite punching bag,” a user wrote.

Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav, alongside Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel, dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up, skittling them for a below-par 146 in 19.1 overs. Despite Hardik Pandya’s absence and a strong 84-run opening stand, India’s spinners dominated the back-10 overs, taking nine wickets for just 33 runs. India got off to a wobbly start after losing Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubhman Gill early, but Tilak Verma and Shivam Dube held their nerves to bring India home.
