The powerhouse back-rower has hung up his boots following a career spanning just under 300 matches, the last of which came over the weekend.

Murdoch-Masila has spent the past three seasons with St George Illawarra Dragons and came off the bench for them during the New South Wales Cup Grand Final against New Zealand Warriors.

The Warriors ran out 30-12 victors to advance to the State Championship Final, meaning the 34-year-old’s career is now at an end.

The Tongan international spent three seasons at The Halliwell Jones Stadium having joined in 2018 from Salford Red Devils, with whom he spent two successful years upon arriving in England.

He was a key part of The Wire’s last trophy-winning side, scoring a try in the 2019 Challenge Cup Final victory over St Helens have also touched down in the previous year’s Wembley loss to Catalans Dragons.

In total, he scored 21 tries in 68 appearances for Warrington before returning to his native New Zealand with his family including wife Roxy, who captained the Wire women’s team to promotion during their inaugural season in 2019.

Roxy posted a tribute to her husband to her Instagram page in which she says she is “beyond proud” of his achievements within the game.

Tributes also came in from his management company, Crown Sports Management, and the official Tonga Rugby League page after he represented his Tonga heritage 16 times in the international arena, including at two Rugby League World Cups.

Upon leaving Warrington, Murdoch-Masila spent two seasons with New Zealand Warriors before joining St George Illawarra in 2023.
