Leigh Leopards have continued their spate of contract renewals with a playmaker signing a new one-year deal with the club.
The past few weeks have seen Gareth O’Brien, Jack Hughes and Josh Charnley all sign new deals and now another player has joined that list of contract extensions.
Utility playmaker Ben McNamara has signed a new one-year deal to keep him as a Leigh Leopards player in 2026 with the 23-year-old set to continue his journey with the club.
McNamara joined with Leigh ahead of the 2024 season and has played 27 games across his two years at the club with the most memorable of those being at Magic Weekend this year as he condemned his dad, Steve’s, Catalans side to defeat with a stunning display.
He would kick five goals in that game and score a try as Leigh won 26-24 at St James Park, deservedly picking up the Man of the Match medal for his efforts.

Ben McNamara signs new Leigh Leopards deal
News of McNamara’s new deal was announced by official club channels with a statement reading: “Leigh Leopards are delighted to confirm that Ben McNamara has signed a one-year extension to his contract to the end of 2026.”
The 23-year-old has been deployed at hooker at times this season, making him an even more valuable squad player due to his versatility in three of the four spine positions.
Speaking on his new deal, he said: “I’m feeling good about the new contract. It’s given me a good boost knowing that my future is secure for another year.
“Leigh is a great place to be and I’m delighted to stay.”
McNamara spoke about his dual role, speaking on playing in the halves but also learning from star man Edwin Ipape on how best to play hooker.
“I’ve enjoyed playing half-back where it’s awesome with some great players around you,” McNamara said, before adding: “I’ve also enjoyed the simplicity of being a hooker and tried to help Edwin, who’s an inspiration and a great guy.”
McNamara also hailed the team spirit and camaraderie with club owner Derek Beaumont also offering praise to the newly-contracted playmaker.
Beaumont said: “Ben plays tough. He puts his body on the line, he’s versatile and a good pro and a good person. He’s a solid addition to the squad for next year.”
