Celtic players come and go, but the best player chants are remembered forever.
The Hoops fans’ songbook honours players beyond just the current squad under Brendan Rodgers.
Henrik Larsson, Artur Boruc and Tommy Burns are among those whose name you may hear at any given Celtic away fixture.
One tune which took the Hoops support by storm (and ended up being picked up by England fans at the World Cup) was for Mikael Lustig, in 2017.
The “Lustig you’re the one” version of Atomic Kitten’s Whole Again became iconic, and helped cement the Swede as one of the fan favourites of his era. He has now offered his thoughts on it.
Mikael Lustig lifts lid on his iconic Celtic chant
Celtic fans debuted the song at an away game against Ross County.
It was some month for the defender – scoring a brace against Hibernian at Hampden, knocking out Italy to qualify Sweden for the World Cup and finally getting his own chant to the tune of an Atomic Kitten song.

It remained a regular in the songbook until Lustig departed the club the following summer. It was nabbed by England fans at the World Cup in Russia in honour of Gareth Southgate, but the Swede knows that it’s his.
Lustig made that clear when speaking to The Celtic Way, saying: “That Atomic Kitten song, I can’t listen to it without thinking of me!
“People say we stole it from England, who sang it about their former head coach, Gareth Southgate, but we did it in 2017. They copied us in 2018! That’s my song now, sorry Gareth!”
At least he’s polite enough to apologise to Southgate – very gracious given that the tune was blatantly stolen.
Lustig made 273 appearances for Celtic, winning over 16 trophies. Not bad for a free transfer. The chant may still be his biggest honour, though.
Mikael Lustig, Henrik Larsson and Celtic’s Swedish connection
The Hoops have a special relationship with the nation of Sweden – mainly down to Lustig as well as Larsson, who established himself as the club’s greatest ever foreign player with 242 goals.
Johan Mjallby also firmly made his mark in Glasgow, making over 170 appearances for the Celts across six seasons.
Carl Starfelt was the most recent Swede to make an impact at Celtic Park – Benjamin Nygren is currently trying to do the same. Daniel Majstorovic, Magnus Hedman and John Guidetti have also contributed to the Hoops.
Thursday’s Europa League tie against Braga will see Gustaf Lagerbielke make his return to Parkhead – he will be hoping to prove that he deserved more opportunities from Rodgers.
