Renault UK has emailed driver to inform them of “a cyber-attack on one of our third-party providers, leading to some Renault UK customers’ personal data being taken from one of their systems”.
The message added: “We do not hold any financial details for you, so no bank details formed part of the cyber-attack.” In the email, they said: “The third-party has confirmed that this was an isolated incident, which has now been contained and removed. We are working closely with them to ensure that all appropriate actions are being taken. We have notified all relevant authorities. It is important to note that the data was taken from a third-party provider and that none of our own systems have been compromised.”
A spokesperson from Renault UK told The Express: “One of Renault Group UK’s third-party data processing providers has notified us that that they have been the subject of a cyber-attack, and that some customers’ personal data has been taken from one of their systems.Â
“This includes some or all of: customer names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, phone number, vehicle identification numbers and vehicle registration details. No financial or password data has been compromised.Â
“The third-party provider has confirmed this is an isolated incident which has been contained, and we are working with it to ensure that all appropriate actions are being taken. We have notified all relevant authorities. No Renault Group UK systems have been compromised. Â
“We are in the process of contacting all affected customers, advising them of the cyber-attack and reminding them to be cautious of any unsolicited requests for personal information.Â

“We wish to apologise to all affected customers. Data privacy is of the upmost importance to us and we deeply regret that this has occurred.”
The car giant has urged the customer to “be cautious”.Â
The email continued: “Be cautious of any unsolicited requests for personal information, especially requests made by email or phone.
“You should never share your passwords online or on the phone – Renault UK will never ask you for this information.
