Warrington Wolves have confirmed that assistant coach Martin Gleeson has parted ways with the club.
Gleeson joined the Wolves in September 2023 following a spell in rugby union and has spent the last two seasons working under head coach Sam Burgess. The former Warrington, St Helens, Wigan Warriors and Hull FC player primarily took charge of the club’s attack under Burgess.
But, following the conclusion of what was a difficult Super League season for the Wolves, the club have confirmed that he has left his role by mutual consent.
The 45-year-old’s next steps are unknown, but the club have released a statement to confirm that they have begun the process of recruiting a replacement for Gleeson ahead of pre-season.
Gleeson was a favourite at the Halliwell Jones Stadium as a player, scoring 48 tries in 117 games in primrose and blue and his return to the club as a coach was a welcome one, particularly after spending four years in the 15-man code.
He worked with Wasps and the England national team during his time in union, but made the decision to return in 2023 and eventually joined up with Warrington Wolves. Richard Marshall remains at the club as Burgess’ assistant.
In a parting message to the club’s supporters, Gleeson told supporters they should be excited for what the future holds with bright times ahead.
“I’d like to thank Simon Moran for the opportunity to bring me back to club,” Gleeson said. “It’s been an incredible couple of years working with Sam [Burgess] who I’ve learnt so much off in a short space of time.
“I’d like to thank the players who I’ve worked with. With the youth coming through under Sam’s leadership the club is in a great place going forward which the fans should be excited about.”
