Leigh Leopards fell short at the semi-final stage against Wigan Warriors for a second successive season and club owner Derek Beaumont has had his say.
Unfortunately, much of the talk mid-week revolved around Beaumont and the off-field issues regarding his and Wigan’s disagreement over ticket allocation as opposed to the actual fixture, when the fixture itself looked certain to be brilliant.
That proved true as Wigan came through in a war to win 18-6 against Leigh with that score potentially flattering the hosts, given the fact the Leopards were in the game from minute one to minute 80.
It was Sam Walters’ try in the 80th minute that blew the score from 14-6 to 18-6, with the second half scoreless until that point as both sides engaged in a battle of wills.
Two huge moments before the half were ultimately what cost Leigh as an Edwin Ipape penalty allowed Wigan to go 8-6 up with the Leopards then having to cede the ball at kick-off, from which Bevan French scored his second try and effectively secured the game for Matt Peet’s side.

Leigh Leopards owner teases new signings as final snipe made towards Wigan
Now, club owner Derek Beaumont, who didn’t attend the game as he’d announced in his 4,465-word statement mid-week, before then posting a selfie of himself watching the game on TV tonight.
The Leopards owner has now taken to social media once again to react to his side’s defeat and his reflective message has also teased some good news for Leigh fans in the coming days and weeks, whilst also having another dig about Wigan’s ‘disrespect’ this past week.
Taking to X, Beaumont said: “Massive effort from both sets of players! Really proud of what our Leigh Leopards players have achieved this season.
“Congratulations to the players and coaches and most fans of Wigan Warriors, enjoy your moment. Massive respect to our fans who were superb given the disrespectful way they have been treated.
“Big week for our club now in a different way. Memberships and more signings! Enjoy your weekend.”
Fan issues aside, there are so many reasons to be excited as a Leigh Leopards fan given the huge step they’ve taken forward this season and their track record of recruitment.
So far, no new signings have been confirmed but if Leigh can add players of a similar quality to what they have in 2025 then the Leopards will be fancied to go one step further and make it to the Grand Final in 2026.
