Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner could have been managing a different Premier League side this season as the Austrian is linked with Manchester United.
Bookmakers have named Glasner as the frontrunner to replace Ruben Amorim, amid growing speculation about Amorim’s future at United following their 3-1 defeat to Brentford last weekend. The Portuguese head coach is believed to still have the backing of the board despite the latest setback at the Gtech Community Stadium, with United maintaining that no replacement is currently being lined up.
Club sources said similar following the humiliating Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town and supporters have grown increasingly frustrated with the team’s inability to put together a consistent run of positive results. The 2-1 win over Chelsea lifted spirits at Old Trafford, but the performance against Brentford was a setback.
A number of managers have been rumoured as potential replacements, and Glasner, who has won the FA Cup and Community Shield, could have replaced Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham earlier this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Palace chairman Simon Jordan revealed that he suggested Glasner to ex-Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy during the summer. Spurs were searching for a new manager to replace Postecoglou, but Levy ultimately chose to appoint Thomas Frank from Brentford.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
“I like Glasner. With all due respect to the departed, I actually said to Daniel (Levy) about him during the summer, ‘Why not Glasner?’,” Jordan disclosed. “He had his own views on it, but I think he’s a top, top manager.
“Do I think he’ll be Palace manager at the end of the season? I’ll be amazed because he’s got nothing left on his contract now. This is his last year. He hasn’t been given the support yet. He’s working the oracle. They’re taking their best players out, repeatedly taking their best players out.
“Fortunately for Palace, which is the great thing they’re not taking them out, these clubs are having to pay for them now. That’s the good thing about it. [Eberechi] Eze’s gone and for top money, Olise went for decent money and people are having to pay for it. And Guehi, he didn’t walk out the door. But again, they’re operating at their highest level.
“It’s like Nottingham Forest last year. Their run of form, as a unit, as a team is fabulous. Look at the teams that they’re beating, look at the results that they’re getting and they’ve got a European competition. So, we’ll see how that plays out with the strength of their squad.”
The Austrian manager has addressed the rumours linking him to the hot seat at Old Trafford. “I follow all the rumours – and that’s all there is – neutrally and completely relaxed,” he told Kicker.
“Focusing on the daily work with my players and coaches, and trying to enjoy it as much as possible.”
Glasner has become the bookmakers’ favourite following an impressive stint at Selhurst Park. Gareth Southgate, who was linked with the United job last year, also remains among the frontrunners.
The Eagles are yet to lose a Premier League game this season. Their dramatic late victory over Liverpool on Saturday propelled them up to third in the table, keeping them unbeaten through their first six matches.
