Kendal Golf Club’s Rosie Waller and Sue Howell were crowned champions of the Daily Mail Women’s Foursomes, the largest amateur golf tournament in the UK, which took place across September 28 and 29.
The event began with over 2,500 competitors across the country, with Kendal Golf Club now celebrating their successful members.
After winning at Kendal Golf Club, Rosie and Sue battled through seven knockout rounds, including a crucial win away at Peebles in Scotland, to secure their place in the national finals.
The Finals, for the top 16 pairs from across the UK, were hosted by the historic St Pierre Golf Club in Chepstow over two days.
In the first of the finals matches, the pair defeated Turnhouse from Edinburgh and then ‘The Worcestershire’ in the quarter-final, going on to beat Rudding Park in the semi-finals.
In between the last rounds over the two days of matches, Rosie and Sue, and their caddies – Dave Waller and Guy Howell – swapped the fairways for formalwear at the tournament’s gala dinner.
The following day brought the final test: a ‘hard-fought’ match against Taunton and Pickeridge.
And, whilst their opposing partners began to close in on Kendal’s five-up lead towards the end of the day, Rosie and Sue were able to hold on with ‘real determination’.
They went on to seal the victory 3 and 2, earning the national title and the ‘magnificent trophy’ they have brought back to Kendal Golf Club.
The club commented: “After the presentation, it was a long journey home for two very happy players and two very tired caddies.
“Massive congratulations to them both.”
The title for Rosie and Sue comes on the back of what has been a successful year for the golf club and, in particular, its female members.
