Magical: top-class filly and sister to Rhododendron and the debuting PropositionCredit: Edward Whitaker

Navan’s eight-race card today features a juvenile mile maiden (3.52) which has been dominated by Aidan O’Brien in recent years.

The Ballydoyle trainer saddles a Frankel colt with one of the finest pedigrees in the stud book. Proposition is a Coolmore homebred being out of brilliant race filly and producer Halfway To Heaven.

A winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas, Nassau Stakes and Sun Chariot Stakes, Halfway To Heaven has proven – if possible – even more prolific at stud. The Pivotal mare is responsible for two top-class daughters of Galileo in Magical and Rhododendron, the latter a seven-time Group 1 winner including two Irish Champion Stakes.

The legacy of this fantastic family is deepening as Rhododendron, herself a winner of the Lockinge, Prix de l’Opera and Fillies’ Mile – is the dam of dual Derby hero, Irish Champion Stakes victor and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Auguste Rodin.

The son of Deep Impact retired to Coolmore this year and covered his first book at a fee of €30,000.

My colleague Joe Eccles takes a closer look at the two-year-old here.Â
